Queens of Comedy in a one-night show

The comedy show has been made possible by Soul Food Events, which brought Ugandan comedienne, Anne Kansiime last year. The company also hosted a number of shows such as the Soul Food Comedy Nights.

“Queens of Comedy is a movement that puts the spotlight on women in comedy across the globe. We decided to join the franchise because we believe we need to have a focused and conscious approach towards supporting comedians,” Karabo Musa of Soul Food Events said. Musa who is optimistic that the event will open doors for female representation in the comedy industry, said Queens of Comedy would be an annual event that will see more female comedians taking part.

Male comedians mainly dominate the local comedy scene while there are a small number of female comedians.

The most entertaining comedian of the night would get an opportunity to share the stage with Kansiime during her South Africa and Botswana tour. “We believe that in three to five years’ time, Botswana should be able to export female comediennes of Anne Kansiime’s calibre and sell out shows around the globe,” stated Musa, who said they will be working closely with women’s affairs to make it a calendar event for women’s month. The four comediennes Enigma, Rekunde, Refilwe and Mosetsana have performed in a number of stand up comedy shows of different magnitudes.  Rekunde recently shared the stage with Tanzanian comedian, Idris Sultan.

The show will feature performances by Helen Dikobe.  Margaret Nasha is the patron for Queens of Comedy. Tickets for the show are already available at Computicket and Hair Garage salon.
