The final auditions were held at Gaborone International Conference Centre (GICC) last weekend. In the registration room there was an instrument, which was used to measure aspirants’ height and those who did not meet the pageant’s required height were turned away.
“Even though we have been quite vocal about the height issue, the young women who were not tall still showed up to try their luck in high heels. I assume they thought it would help. Their hearts were broken,” Miss Botswana media director, Tshepo Maphanyane said.
She stated that some of the aspiring models that faced the height challenge made pleas to be given a chance to try their luck.
Maphanyane applauded models that did not make it, saying their determination to go for auditions reflects that they are confident individuals.
This time around a decision was made that models that did not reach the required standards should not pay the audition fee, which was P300. Maphanayane stated that a large number of models from Gaborone and surrounding areas turned up for the auditions.
Models were given a chance to showcase their skills in front of a scouting team.
The team comprised of Tlhomamo Thabiso Moje, Boitshwarelo Lebang, Dorcas Thobega Molefhe and Bogadi Nwako.
A total number of 30 young women will be selected to participate in the pageant. Selected models will go through mentorship and boot camps to prepare them for the pageant, as well as trim the number to 12 finalists.
The grand finale is scheduled for September 29, 2015. The general public will have an opportunity to see the Miss Botswana journey from the auditions, until the finale in a new reality show called ‘Miss Botswana 2015 Journey’. It will be hosted by TV personality Loungo Pitse every Sunday. The show started airing last Sunday at 6:30 pm on Btv.
