Last weekend’s action superstar, Tom Cruise finally came out of hibernation with the franchise’s fifth installment dubbed Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation.

With the IMF now disbanded and Ethan Hunt (Cruise) out in the cold, a new threat called the Syndicate has come to the fray. The Syndicate terror group poses as a highly skilled international rogue organisation committed to destroying the Impossible Mission Force (IMF) and all other intelligence organisations across the world plotting global chaos with a series of timely terror attacks.

Hunt must now prove his mettle and expose his toughest mission ever led by a power-hungry villain Solomon Lang (Sean Harris).

One of the good things about this film is the fact that it is consistent and it maintains all of its star power from the previous Mission Impossible Ghost protocol.  Cruise reprised his role as the best spy agent in the game because of other IMF agents like Jeremy Renner.  I hope you did not forget his performances from Bourne Legacy or Avengers. New addition Rebecca Ferguson thrives in this one as a rogue British agent. In relation to that this film is so explosively coherent because it was written and directed by Oscar award winner, Christopher McQuarrie; the same creative mind that brought us Edge Of Tomorrow and Jack Reacher, which also starred Tom Cruise.

 

Action

It has come to light that Mission Impossible is now taking the baton from Daniel Craig’s James Bond and now charging ahead as the best spy movie franchise of late.  It always leaves tongues wagging due to unforgettable moments. Mission Impossible Rogue Nation (M.I.R.N) is very well planned to the extent that it thrills and excites. The intriguing revelations that might enthral you as well include Hunt’s web of misfortunes caught in no man’s land.

The CIA hunts him down with the British intelligence also running things behind the scenes. It becomes a game of who’s going to win between the IMF, CIA, Syndicate and the British intelligence, MI6. The level of action is also exhilarating pushing M.I.R.N to excel way beyond boundaries of other films.  There is this cool scene whereby Hunt breaks out of captivity with the help of Ilsa Faust, whilst running away from the Syndicate and Lang. The two agents look formidable as they take down the bone doctor and a bunch of men.

There is plenty of martial arts action, gunfight, knife fight and the cherry on top being the snipers. Not only is the action on point, the film also has an interesting setting, which depicts a true espionage world.  For instance we have intelligence organisations seeking to steal secrets hidden in some of the never seen before state of the art top secure facilities in the world. Hunt manages to infiltrate the most high-level underwater-secured vault in Morocco to retrieve confidential info.  Apart from that the movie is also way exciting because of the amazing stunts performed to complement the action during such organised heists and so forth.   Most notably there is a great deal of hot pursuits in the M.I.R.N package, being motorcycle and car chases. The hot pursuits come about as a result of dishonesty and deceptions.  Fergurson impressed me as she scintillated the audience with driving skills, leading a road rage that mesmerised the audience with the sound of her superbike horsepower and torque. Mission Impossible Rogue Nation is definitely a mind-blowing experience. It definitely set the bar high for other upcoming spy films like The Man From Uncle and James Bond Spectre scheduled for release this August and November, respectively. It certainly looks like we are in for a treat of more spy action.

 

Reception

M.I.R.N hit No.1 at the box office charts on its premiere. It has since been at the top of the chart for two consecutive weeks. Its premiere sale figures hit $55 million; with two full weeks in circuit it sits on staggering worldwide revenue of $267 million.
