This is revealed in a voluminous file at the Lobatse High Court, where former doctor, German Heiner Knab is suing the hospital for P6.8 million, after failing to win back his lucrative job. From the annexures that include email communications between the hospital and the plaintiff, who is no longer based in Botswana, the hospital management had among others charged the doctor for reporting his fellow colleague to the police after a fight at the hospital.
Knab is also charged for reporting the same incident to the BHPC, whom he wrote a lengthy letter that shamed other doctors, as well as alleging cases of negligence at the hospital.
Also in the annexures is a Bokamoso Private Hospital contract that gives a sneak peek into the do’s and don’ts of the establishment.
In the email exchanges leading to the current court case, Knab presents himself as a victim of violence. He claims reporting the incident to the police and the BHPC was the logical thing to do irrespective of the confidentiality clauses.
The incident that led to Knab losing his job took place in November 2013. He lost his job after his licence was suspended by the BHPC for four months, before the hospital also removed his practising rights.
The hospital would later, according to the communication between the parties, require him to come back as a company, with his private licence and resident permit, among others.
Knab, according to the annexed communication, was unable to convince the BHPC to grant him the licence. He is also separately suing the government for refusing to issue him with the practising licence.
Besides his salary of P40,000 a month, court documents indicate that Knab also made P300,000 a month from what the hospital called professional fees. The case has been assigned Justice Mercy Garekwe at the Lobatse High Court.
