Two second-half goals from South African, Mogomotsi Mokoka and Boitshoko Zikhale condemned Lions, formerly BMC, to a second consecutive defeat.

Lions had the upper hand initial, but faded as the match wore on. “We lost the game in defence. We also suffered the loss as we don’t have out right wingers,” Mahloane said.

Talented forward, Unobatsha Mbaiwa displayed quality skills as he gave Gunners defence a torrid time, but he could not find the net.  Gunners’ coach, Pio Paul, sensing the game was drifting away, made an immediate substitution at the start of the second half.

Odirile Kgaodi came out for influential Emmanuel Machinya in what proved to be a game-changing move.

Paul made yet another substitution shortly with Tshegofatso Chimuku making way for Zikhale.  Mogomotsi grabbed the opener with a header, which beat goalkeeper, Katlego Mbise. Boitshoko proved to be a super sub as he dribbled past a bemused Mbise and scored Mapantsula’s assurance goal.

Paul said their positive football won them the game. He said they went into the game with a positive forward football strategy.

“The boys played well despite the fact that some players were not included in the squad because of illness,” Paul said. Paul expressed disappointment with striker, Pako Modikwa’s injury. Modikwa was badly injured after he landed awkwardly in the 87th minute.  Paul could not make any changes as he had exhausted his substitutions. “He is a very important player and I wish he recovers as soon as possible,” Paul added. The encounter saw Gunners retain third position on the log with six points from two games. Gilport Lions on the other hand sunk to the bottom with no point from their two games.
