It remains to be seen if project ‘Fill Up The Stadium’ will be possible for the rapper to achieve with his popularity having suffered in recent years.
Kast, born Tshepiso Molapisi (33), told Showbiz yesterday that he was inspired by Ghetto hitmaker, Cassper Nyovest.
“I am not even going to stand here and deny it. I got the inspiration from him, but of course I am doing it on a much smaller scale,” he says.
“We are still in talks with the National Stadium management, so I cannot confirm the date as yet, but it is going to be very soon. I am excited about this latest project and I hope Batswana are too,” Kast says.
He further explained that he came up with the idea after a conversation with friends who hold the view that it is impossible for a local artist to fill up the stadium.
He explained that in most events held locally, for a show to be considered a success it has to feature either a South African or international act.
He said this is something that he (Kast) does not believe.
“I do not believe that an all-local lineup cannot fill up the stadium. We will and we can. I took this as a challenge for myself. I am literally putting my head on the block,” he explains.
Kast further says that the project will not be a one-man show.
He adds that the event would also have exciting elements to it, including a fashion show. He says this would give local designers a platform to sell themselves to the masses.
The Bantuka hitmaker will on the day also officially, launch his latest single dubbed Nkulukulu. He said Nkulukulu, which means ‘to do something big’ in Kalanga is the theme song for the event.
When quizzed on what he had to say about critics who have labelled him as a ‘copycat’ the overzealous Kast says, “It is not plagiarism, its more of getting inspiration from others who do it on a bigger scale.
I hear them, but I want everyone and the Kastalion nation to know that this is not I taking a short cut to anything. I am simply following the trends, even he (Casper Nyovest) does. It’s not even Cassper Nyovest’s original idea,” he said.
The National Stadium fill up capacity is 22,500. Should Kast manage to fill up the stadium the show will go down as one of the biggest ever in Botswana, next to church crusades.
No show, except for the first instalment of the Summer Explosion bash, has ever come close to reaching over 10,000 people in attendance, let alone that number.
