The event will serve as the first round of eliminations, which will leave 15 models that will take part in Miss Africa Botswana finals in November.
South African starlet Bonang Matheba will be the host of the Fashion and Cultural night, while Lady Smith Black Mambazo and Lizibo will be the entertainers for the night.
Thirty models who will battle it out on the ramp on Friday were selected from 10 cities, towns and villages around the country during a month long audition process. The panel of judges, to be revealed on Friday, will be in charge of selecting the finalists. The public was also giving the opportunity to select their favourite contestant via mobile voting.
The Miss Africa team selected 10 upcoming designers to dress the models, thus showcasing their designs.
Miss Africa CEO, Bruce Nkgakile, told Showbiz that the event would be different from regular pageantry fashion shows. “It’s a cultural show hence we will have a serious touch of culture as contestants will also be wearing Tswana traditional costumes such as Makgabe”. Nkgakile stated that it would be a talent night where models will be showcasing different talents such as dancing and singing.
The hype for the fashion and cultural show is high as a number of people want to witness what the first ever Miss Africa has in store for them. Even the host, Bonang Matheba, has expressed excitement on her Twitter account.
Tickets for the event are already on sale at Spar outlets and Webtickets.
The models underwent a seven-day programme which trained them public speaking, image, debate, project management and formulation. They were trained by various experts. They were also taken on a charity tour at Gamodubu Children Centre where they raised funds, cleaned and cooked for underprivileged children.
