Kasi is a Tsotsitaal word for ghetto or townships. On the track, Reacxion sampled Vee Mampeezy’s old track Kasi’s Phuma Khona track. His producer, Chef Gustos, added a hip-hop trap base to the track.
Reacxion pays homage to different townships such as G-West, Maruapula, Bontleng and Extension 16, reminiscing on the good times Kasi life has to offer, despite the negative stereotypes and hardships prevalent in the previously marginalised, and usually disadvantaged communities.
“I grew up in Extension 16, and like in every township there is always crime and poverty, but I am hear putting it on the map to tell people that good can come from the ghetto,” he said.
Reacxion explained that through Kasi’s Phuma Khona, he is trying to motivate young people in the townships to be ambitious regardless of their background.
Reacxion also gives a shout-out to musicians such as, Mingo Touch, who were also raised in the townships. The song fuses trap with kwaito, laced with a few Zulu lyrics on the chorus.
In the song, Reacxion also brags about being one of the best upcoming rappers. The young rapper seems to be busy these days, as he recently worked on a Childline theme song created to help raise funds for the organisation’ centres.
