Spring Xplosion was held on the eve of Independence Day at Fairgrounds Holding. The event had a rich line-up, which consisted of local and international artists.

Young revellers carrying cooler boxes started packing the place in the afternoon. Some were seated on camp chairs sipping refreshments.

Local DJs such as Unanimous 1, T- Man and Sly started the event, and set the tempo high, putting revellers in a party mood.

Other artists such as MMP, DJ Chrispin, Team Distant and Ricky Lamar also gave superb performances that kept the crowd on their feet, dancing and singing along to the music.

Team Distant was in their usual element with an electrical performance. Their performance was, however, shot-lived due to a sound problem. They left the stage before the crowd’s thirst was quenched.

The moment of truth came when a group of female dancers came on stage wearing black bikinis, and black cello taped nipples. They staged some sensual dance moves, under a shower, as they danced holding each other suggestively.

South African artists Black Motion, Dr Malinga, Ricky Rick, Culo De Song, Shimza and Heavy K rocked the stage.

Energetic Dr Malinga drove the crowd crazy with his comical dance moves, which included kicking and acting like a clown on stage. He gave the revellers a good dose as he performed his hit tracks such as Oteng and Orlando. Malinga seemed excitable as he climbed the stage pole, and danced the night away.

Hip-hop maestro Ricky Rick was a favourite to a number of urbanites who followed him. The crowd sang along to his tracks such as Boss Zonke and Sondela.

Headliner of the event Heavy K did not do justice on stage. There was high expectation that his performance would match his latest hit Sweetie, but that was not to be. He played for a couple of minutes and there was a problem with the sound system. After realising that there was a problem, he walked off stage leaving revellers disappointed. He however returned after the sound was fixed, but his performance was still below par.

Entertainment continued until the early hours of the morning with the likes of NT Base playing old school Kwaito.

Meanwhile, drama ensued at the popular event when a South African musician dissed, a compatriot vocalist, Fiesta Black by announcing that she is a one hit wonder. Fiesta Black threw tantrums crying and swearing as her entourage consoled her.

“How could someone say such a thing to me, it hurts,” she cried and said some unprintable words. Her entourage tried telling her to stop crying before she embarrassed herself, but she remianed inconsolable.

The situation was especially embarrassing because everyone just looked on wondering she was the same musician who was always smiling on the screen.

Her other compatriot, Ricky Rick, tried to console her to no avail. She even went to the extent of confronting Flava Dome presenter, Sadie Dikgaka, but the TV personality distanced herself from all the drama.

Fiesta Black  only calmed down after by being plied with drinks while she chain-smoked.Fiesta Black featured in DJ Ganyani’s hit track Xigubu. There was also a groupie moment backstage with a number of women trying to hustle their way to celebrities such as Ricky Rick, Shimza, Dr Malinga and Stilo Magolide. Due to the tight security they could not get close to them except for a few who had backstage tags.
