Responding to Mmegi Business inquiries, REIB president Modiredi Maruping said as an industry and professional body, the institute wants to provide economic solutions that could generate sustainable growth, thereby creating employment and wealth of lifetime for the nation.
“The conference will be focusing on the central district which has the highest growth potential, opportunities in real estate funding, structures and facilities that are supported by local frameworks but are not being provided as solutions, and infrastructure development opportunities and challenges to real estate,” he said.
He also said the conference, themed ‘Sustainable Economic Diversity: The Real Estate Solution’, will speak about the need for Botswana to develop economic diversity for sustainable development through real estate models and platforms.
“We are expecting the conference to be attended by all important stakeholders in real estate, including land boards, planning authorities, financial service providers and all key providers of land services including water and electricity,” Maruping said.
More than 150 delegates, including real estate professionals from Zimbabwe, Namibia and South Africa, are expected to attend the conference.
Maruping said the convention will discuss problems that need solutions. Real estate, as a significant contributor to the economy of Botswana, has been left behind for ages. The real estate institute, therefore, wants to bring real estate to the fore as a solution to some of the day-to-day problems.
“This is a meeting of expert minds to discuss and resolve and mark a way forward in an area we understand well,” he said.
The conference will be followed by the annual general meeting of the institute where the next REIB council will be elected.
