Suspect profile emerges in CEOs murder

Impeccable sources close to the investigation told Mmegi yesterday that witnesses had spotted the man exiting Montshiwa’s residence and driving off in a red Volkswagen vehicle, shortly after shots were fired.

One of Montshiwa’s neighbours in the Block 6 community recounted to Mmegi on condition of anonymity, the events of Sunday night that ended with the 45-year-old dead on his doorstep.

“Around 2230hrs as I was about to head to bed, I heard a loud noise coming from the direction of my neighbour Mike,” the still-shaken eyewitness said.

“I had just switched off the TV and was heading to bed when I heard a loud noise like that of a gun.

“Out of panic, I peeped through the window and I saw a man of medium height, tough looking, strolling from Mike’s front door.”

“He had a long gun in his hand (rifle) but I couldn’t see his face clearly. He then drove off in a red VW Golf.”

The neighbour said Montshiwa was known for having a loud voice and yet no sounds or arguments had been heard from his house prior to the gunshot.

“What puzzles me is Mike is a very loud man, he had a loud voice. It seems there was no argument between the two or I would have heard him.

“And again, he never opened the gate for anyone and I too had to explain myself to him every time I was sent to him.

“It could have been someone who knew him,” the neighbour said.

Daily prayers are ongoing at Montshiwa’s mother’s home in Mogoditshane, while a memorial service will be held on Friday.

Late yesterday afternoon, the Botswana Police Service issued a statement appealing for help from members of the public.

“Botswana Police Service is investigating a case in which the Chief Executive Officer of Fairground Holdings, Michael Montshiwa was allegedly shot and killed by unknown culprit (s) on Sunday evening at around 2230 hrs at his residence in Block 6, Gaborone.”
