The launch, will feature Joyous Celebration’s Puleng March and Hlengiwe Ntombela. South African ensemble Spirit of Praise member Omega Khungu is also scheduled to perform.
We Must Praise leader Vusumuzi Botshelo told Showbiz that gospel lovers should expect a versatile performance from the gospel choir which will give a vibrant performance. “We added a lot of creativity and energy for the performances”. Botshelo said the 24-member group, which was formed early this year, would give a performance that consists of traditional and western hymns.
“We added creativity for the musical performance, especially on western hymns that people think Batswana can not do justice to,” he said.
They have also engaged a Nigerian music director, Johnson Abimbola, who has been working and helping them to polish their performance.
Botshelo, a My Star 2013 finalist, said the formation of this choir was meant to help promote and develop gospel music standards in Botswana.
“Our aim is to raise the bar for local gospel music.”
Auditions for the choir were held early this year. Nearly 100 people auditioned but only seven were chosen to be part of the youthful ensemble. The choir has performed at events such as the annual Easter prayer breakfast.
Botshelo said the official launch took long because organisers were preparing to come up with a well-presented performance; and their South African counterparts were in the country this past weekend for a rehearsal session.
