Maele promises to revisit one-man-one-plot policy

Maele was speaking during the launch of the Orange Botswana and Tati Land Board (TLB) partnership last week in Tati Siding.
Maele also said that he would investigate the issue of church rental payment, as they do not have a standardised payment.
During the launch it was disclosed that TLB is owed approximately P7 million in unpaid lease rentals across the district. Maele said non-payment of lease rentals has a negative impact on government revenues.
“In some instances non-payment is a result of sheer reluctance by the leasees, while at times it is due to lack of adequate paying points since some villages are far from Masunga where the revenue offices are located,” he said.
Maele said he encourages different Land Boards to come up with initiatives of collecting revenues from the people and the TLB brought forward the initiative of partnering with Barclays Bank, which became operational in September 2014.
He added that after Barclays they are now partnering with Orange Botswana so that they can make it more convenient to collect debts from people.
The minister said the TLB and Orange Botswana partnership is going to deliver an e-service platform in paying leases, adding that with the e-commerce services across the country, this will enable revenues to be transferred faster and bring services close to the people.
“Additionally the travel costs and queuing at the office will be a thing of the past as the distance barrier will be amplified.”
The Orange Money director, Seabelo Pilane, said the mobile money service was launched in 2011 to afford customers the chance to make basic financial transactions using their cell phones and that the facility brings convenience to customers and saves them a lot of valuable time.
