Segway scooter, the new trend in entertainment

Some know the light electric device and possibly did not know what to call it.  Envisaged as a way for people to travel between home, work or school in urban areas, the Segway has rather been trending in the entertainment industry.

International artists like Chris Brown, Justin Bieber, Swizz Beatz, Fetty Wap, Yo Gotti, French Montana, Young Thug and Wiz Khalifa have been posting videos and pictures of themselves riding the latest hands-free scooters. They are everywhere and they caught the interest of one local young man, Tyler Anthony, when he visited China with his parents.  The Segway self-balance scooter was invented by Dean Kamen.

In an interview with Showbiz, Anthony said he has now decided to host a bi-monthly event called Segway Saturdays to promote the scooter.  “It’s a new product and it has been big this year.   I got the licence to sell the product in Botswana,” he said.

Anthony said he has a direct relationship with the manufacturer and he is the only person licensed to sell the product locally.

He further indicated that his parents were the ones who invested in his business idea.

“We started with 10 scooters, four big ones and six small ones,” he said.

Anthony said the device is convenient for both urban and rural lifestyle because they are made in sets. “It takes one hour to charge and it lasts for three hours. It can travel up to 10km/hour and it can travel on tarred and mild gravel roads,” he said.

Anthony said the device is cool because someone can play around and stunt with it.

“It is fun and very convenient for travelling around town and neighbourhoods,” he said.

The device itself is a technological wonder because it can maintain its balance better than a human.  Experts say it is much more fuel-efficient than a car.
