In their place, there are two most interesting couples who have clashed on numerous occasions
Moswaane and Kokorwe
The Speaker of the National Assembly, Gladys Kokorwe and Member of Parliament for Francistown West, Ignatius Moswaane have not had a good relationship in Parliament.
Things started when Moswaane moved an urgent motion in Parliament calling for an investigation into the Botswana National Youth Council (BNYC), which was met with stiff rejection from the Speaker.
“I intend to arrange a meeting with the Speaker so that we can iron out our differences.
Obviously, she has issues with me and I do not have a clue as to what the cause of the problem is. I am an elected Member of the House and I do not have to always be denied the right to speak,” said Moswaane.
He also complained to his party caucus and chief whip on what he called the Speaker’s hatred for him. But Kokorwe maintained that she has nothing against Moswaane and that she only wants Moswaane to follow Parliament procedure like any other MPs.
Just recently, Moswaane threatened the Speaker, this time indicating that he will lobby other MPs to topple her. He also warned that he will cross the floor. This was after she ordered him to sit down. Moswaane said: “There is no one who is going to stop me from talking. Why should we be given a sitting allowance when people are suffering? You can do whatever you want, but I am not going to stop talking or else I will cross the floor.”
Kokorwe responded that she did not care about his crossing of the floor.
Go man Go…Moswaane…go!
Dow and Boko
The two lawyers who landed lucrative jobs in politics as minister and leader of Opposition.
Duma Boko and Unity Dow will always be remembered for their roles in the 2004-2006 trial of Roy Sesana and others who were challenging the forced relocation of Basarwa from the Central Kalahari Game Reserve (CKGR).
Then, Boko was in the team that represented Basarwa whilst Dow was a member of the bench.
Almost a decade after the landmark judgement in 2006, the duo does not seem to enjoy a good relationship at all.
Just last week, Parliament was forced to adjourn for one hour 30 minutes after Dow was alleged to have attacked Boko in his absence, that he cannot try to be caring about Matsha students when he had abandoned his children.
Dow later withdrew the statement and requested Parliament to delete from the Hansard all utterances she made on Boko. This was after Boko had threatened to respond to Dow in a personal way. Boko…Come on man…we want the juicy stuff. We can assure you that we will never publish it. Please man!!!
