Botswana Nurses Union (BONU) has observed that although Gender Based Violence (GBV) has been widespread before the COVID-19 outbreak, it has, however, worsened in the last few months in Botswana. “As UN call it, a ‘shadow pandemic’ is on the rise because home isolation, lockdowns and movement restrictions present abusers with increased opportunity to inflict harm on victims who are rendered more vulnerable by reduced access to their support networks and limited options for escape from such environment,” BONU says in a statement.
