My Star contestants need to step up

The show is down to only 18 contestants, after 22-year-old Anita was struck off the show. She received the least votes from both the public and the judges.
Asked what she thinks may had led to her elimination, the season 7 finalist said: “Stage fright was my downfall.
I practise everyday but every time I get on stage, stage fright overcomes me and I tend to fail to project my voice the way I know I can.”
The optimist aspiring singer added: “If given the chance I would absolutely come back, I know I can sing, I love singing.”
The remaining contestants, who will be in Moshupa next Friday for another round of elimination show, need a lot of guidance. Showtime team noted on Friday that only a handful of the contestants showed maturity to compete.
When first introduced, this year’s theme had a lot of potential. Just by the name, one would have imagined intense competition among the previous finalists.
Notably only those who remained in the musical scene, even after the show are proving to be the favourites. Those who continued their music career, after being eliminated were way ahead of those who perhaps stopped doing music after being eliminated from the previous shows.
Even their preparedness showed how badly they wanted to win the show.
This year’s show features contestants who reached the final stages of the previous shows as such one would have expected to see better quality. Best of the Best as termed is supposed to be a testament of My Star’s 10-year history. Showtime can also note some seasons in the past, which had stiffer competition than the current Best of the Best.
However, one can note that when it comes to stage performance the aspiring artists have improved. On Saturday Dineo who sang Celine Dion’s Because You Loved Me scooped the best stage performance.
But it was last year’s finalist, Ramonyai and Bianca who were the crowd’s favourites evidenced by the loud cheers and standing ovation they received.
The girls’ favourite, Star, also closed the show in show stopper style with his rendition of Trey’s award winning single Slow Motion.
