D’banj, whose real name is Daniel Oyebanjo, was earlier scheduled to be in Botswana on May 28, but this week sources close to the event told Showbiz that the event has been moved to October.
“The deal was finalised end of February. Everything has been paid for but the event had to be postponed because we felt we had little time to promote the event. About three big sponsors are now on board,” said a source within Miss Africa International.
Showbiz can confirm that beMobile, KBL and Distell are brands tipped to be on board with the show.
It has also been confirmed to Showbiz that D’banj, who was last year the talk of social media after he “dumped” Mzanzi’s It Girl, Bonang Matheba, on twitter, will bring a 10 man band for his live concert.
Prior to the musical event D’banj, who is often referred to as the Koko Master, will host a mini conference with local artists. The Koko Master is expected to share both his personal experiences and expertise at the conference, which is aimed at empowering local artists.
The one-day conference will be hosted and organised by the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture. The show’s chief organisers, Bruce Nkgakile, was cagey about whether Dbanj will be the artist they will be bringing.
“We will have a music event, but at the moment I will not confirm anything. We will call a press conference soon for any developments.”
The musical show will also be a countdown to the unveiling of the contestants for the Miss Africa International pageant. The pageant will feature 48 countries around the continent.
