Their suspension also saw Walter Kgabung and Solomon Mantswe both being recalled as the chairperson and vice chairperson respectively.

Rapula Okaile took reins as the interim chairperson while Botswana Football Association (BFA) CEO, Kitso Kemoeng was roped in to be the acting BPL CEO. Mamelodi has since served the BPL with court papers challenging his suspension, which he said is unconstitutional.

Mamelodi is challenging the constitutionality of the BPL board’s decision and argues that the board has no powers to do so. He was suspended pending a forensic audit. He has already won the first round where the BPL unsuccessfully tried to summon him for hearing. He approached the courts and stopped the BPL from carrying out disciplinary hearing before the investigations were completed.

In his suspension letter, Mamelodi was notified by the board of its realisation that the league had no funds to finish off the remaining period, which included the payment of monthly grants to teams.

The board also notified him of a deficit of P6.2 million in terms of the revised budget.

The board in its reasons for his suspension said as the chief accounting officer, Mamelodi’s duties included among others; managing and supervising the keeping of financial accounts.

The board also cited serious allegations of breach of his fiduciary responsibilities by “allowing one of the Premier League clubs to finance or offer loans to other teams within the league” without the sanction or authority of the board.
