Car spinning in Botswana will never be the same again and the event got off to a big start with the Vice President, Mokgweetsi Masisi opening the Earthquake in style.

‘Sissy Boy’ as he is also known, said he was impressed by the way the sport has developed over time. “It’s regulated, it’s safe, it’s for young people and we must enjoy it,” he said. He highlighted that the youth must engage in motorsport and be trained from an early age. Wearing his usual flat cap, ‘Sissy Boy’ got into the spinning track as a co-driver and was waving while the car was doing rounds on spinning area.

That was before a team of spinners from Mafikeng arrived on the arena to show everyone the seemingly impossible car stunts. Panjaro was spinning alongside his older brother Austin and a female spinner, Brandon.

Even though they were not competing with the locals, the spinners entertained the crowd to the fullest. When it was time to do some freestyle, all the five spinners from Mafikeng got into the track to showcase their spontaneous drifting and power slides. Panjaro jumped into the passenger seat and his brother got in the car to show the young boy that he has been spinning long before he did.

Though this is a dangerous manoeuvre, Panjaro could jump off a moving car and climb on top without any fear.

It is illegal for a person of his age to get into the drivers seat but because car spinning is a sport, the boy is allowed to do his magic and drive the passion to extraordinary levels.

Men dominate the sport, but one female car spinner, Brandon, was an exception with her skills in the arena as it knows no boundaries.

While spinners from Maftown are already making waves in the world of spinning in South Africa, local spinners were also in action to indicate that the sport is gaining momentum.

Mothusi Alfred of Team Graveyard was the winner on the day followed by Kagiso Binda of The Magistrate. Vishu got the third spot in a competition of seven local spinners.

U.S Ambassador to Botswana, Earl Miller and Satar Dada of Motor Centre also graced the event. Masisi promised that he will help the sport to grow and bring sponsors on board.
