Gareanna told Mmegi Sport over the weekend that his players still have fear and lack confidence. “What I have realised throughout all the games that we have played is that our players lack confidence. The players are new to the league and they have fear especially when they are playing teams such as Mafolofolo.

“It is going to be a long process for us to gain positive results from the league matches. I could be saying we will produce good results next season, but there is still more work to be done,” Gareanna said.

The mentor further said his players need to overcome fear and apply themselves in order to learn. He said lack of practice matches has also cost them time to learn techniques and improve performance.

“Before we started the league, I told them that they are going to play highly experienced teams and all we have to do is to apply ourselves. We don’t have friendly matches as often as we would have liked because of our location. We don’t have many volleyball teams in our area apart from constituency league clubs, hence the players don’t get enough competition to learn and improve skills apart from the league games,” he said.

Selebi-Phikwe joined the Mascom League at the beginning of the season and they have suffered losses throughout. Over the weekend, they lost with identical 3-0 margins to BDF VI and Mafolofolo.

The team is built mainly around young players some of whom are new players in the game. Two of the players are students at Selebi-Phikwe Senior Secondary School while most of the  players were signed from constituency league teams in Selebi-Phikwe.

Their captain, Tshepang Bathoeng said they are yet to learn and improve in many aspects to be able to beat other teams. Bathoeng further said their intention is to at least avoid the last spot in their debut season.

“Much of the competition is with giant teams, the likes of Mafolofolo, Kutlwano and few other teams, but if we could get more serious and determined, we can beat the other teams. It is just a matter of time. We are yet to learn and improve,” Bathoeng said.
