Rasesa Social Picnic has grown to become one of the biggest crowd pullers amongst the leisure events of this country.

It started in 2016 as a bi-annual event with a March and an October offering in Rasesa at the Masa Gardens.

Link Port in partnership with Paperclip, Yarona FM, Liquorama and Webtickets are brands behind the events.

The event coordinator, Bakang Phiri told Arts & Culture that they are 95% done with preparation works with only a week to go.

“This is a family friendly social event, not a music festival.

As such, the main focus of the event is for people to go there and socialise while having fun,” Phiri clarified about the nature of the event.  He said over the years they have had both children and adults at the event, thus they have created a family-friendly setting to cater for all age groups.

Some of the activities at the event include performances by local DJs, the kiddies corner, jumping castles and clowns along with food stalls, a cocktail lounge, the gaming section and stalls by small businesses from the locality. Phiri pointed out that the stalls provide a platform for local businesses getting exposure through their event as it has a huge following.

He says they have been able to see a positive contribution of the event to the businesses in Rasesa and the surrounding areas.  The event starts at 11am and ends at midnight with children vacating the premises at 7pm.

DJs performing at the event are from the surrounding areas too, so Phiri said who added that theirs is to give the locals mileage.

Phiri said the event has grown significantly over the years so much that they have been selling out for the past three events.   He added that even though the event has been selling out, there is still room for growth.

“We are not only focused solely on the event, but we are also looking to give back to the community,” Phiri said.  He added that they have already donated 15 pairs of shoes and 600 pads to Bakgatla JSS and 20 mattresses to the Motswedi Rehabilitation Centre.

When commenting on the security of the event, Phiri said they have since stopped allowing bottles into the venue. He also said they have hired two security companies.

They have also engaged the Mochudi police to ensure the safety of the attendees. An ambulance is also expected to be on standby at the event in case of emergencies.  Standard tickets are sold at P100 and they would be available on the day for P150. Tickets can be bought at Liquorama stores and Webtickets.
