Sacked Taziba berates running of BPL

Taziba was recently relieved of his membership at the management committee “without reasons” less than two months after it was formed.
He, however, said he strongly believes his sacking was as a result of being vocal about certain procedures not being followed.
He said a particular reason for his dismissal was voicing out his discontent about the change of fixtures that was done without the management committee’s involvement.
“The board has approved the fixtures and they have been signed, but before the league even starts, the game between TAFIC and Orapa United is moved without the knowledge of the committee. After that, Gilport Lions requests that their game against Extension Gunners be moved from Molepolole to Otse College and we said that ‘cannot happen because we can only move matches’ where it is necessary,” Taziba said. He said while they were still waiting, they learnt that the game had been moved to UB Stadium.
Township Rollers, realising that there would now be another big match just next to the National Stadium, where they were hosting Orapa United, also requested that their match be moved to the evening.
“Although Rollers might have had a valid reason, I made it clear that we could not preside over their request because by so doing, we would be legitimising the amended Gunners/Gilport fixture, which was done without our involvement,” Taziba said yesterday.
“If the game between Gilport and Gunners had not been moved to UB stadium, the Rollers match would not have been affected. The Rollers/Orapa United match, however, was also moved to the evening without the involvement of the management committee,” he added.
He said with so much happening he could not keep quiet and this rubbed some people the wrong way. He said he would rather be fired for standing for the truth than keeping quiet and staying on while things were not done properly.
He said as it stands, the management committee is not useful since certain individuals can still change fixtures without the committee’s input.
But BPL board chairperson, Seiphetlho Sefhako said the responsibility of the fixtures lies with the management committee and added that the BPL board is not involved.
He referred Mmegi Sport enquiries to the Botswana Football Association chief executive officer, Mfolo Mfolo who was said to be in a meeting.
