Three Tanzanians Nabbed For Housebreaking

The Officer Commanding senior superintendent Paul Molapisi told The Monitor that the three, who have identified themselves as Tanzanian nationals, were arrested in possession of stolen goods and clothes.“They were found in possession of electronics like hard drives, computer mouse and clothes suspected to be stolen,” said Molapisi.

The police boss said through their stop and search they recently managed to arrest the suspects who were driving a Honda Fit.

He said they also had tools of trade in their possession, which they suspected were being used for house-breaking and theft incidents. “Two of the suspects who reside in Gaborone are aged 40 years while the other one is 43-years-old. One was found in possession of an expired Tanzanian passport while the other two claimed to have passports though they did not have them in their possession,” said Molapisi.

He said in further investigation they linked the trio to a string of house breaking incidents that occurred in Lobatse and Gaborone.  He said they also retrieved a mobile phone belonging to a white man who was recently robbed in Gaborone.

“The whole of July we have been receiving house breaking reports reaching four in a week despite our efforts on the ground. This concerned and forced us to launch patrols up until we made a breakthrough in arresting the suspects,” he said. He said the suspects were supposed to have been arraigned on Friday but could not as there was no Swahili interpreter available. Molapisi said the suspects would be arraigned tomorrow at the Lobatse Magistrate’s Court.

Molapisi pleaded with members of the community to maximise the security of their homes to protect their valuables.

Meanwhile, Molapisi said Woodhall police are investigating a case in which a 64-year-old man was burnt to death in a house at Woodhall 1. He, however, ruled out any foul play stating that the deceased might have mishandled fire and the house caught on the flames.

“Last Friday around 3pm we received a report that a house was burning, police rushed to the scene and took the victim to Athlone Hospital where he was certified dead by doctors upon arrival. The deceased, who was laid to rest last Wednesday had sustained severe wounds all over his body,” said Molapisi.
