This year’s line-up is made up of mostly young designers in the likes of Designer Boka Creations, Lelo’s Blessed Hands, Truebelle Designs, Ne’Lee Hirsch, Versatile Creations, Lt Peculisr Couture, Tony, Funky Resy, Kanyo M, Fierce Designs, Rit-ac-Collections and Lerang Tailor Fashion and Design.
According to the Development Advanced Institute (DAI) the organisers, sent out a call to designers looking for versatility and fashion brands that stood out, especially the new faces in the industry.
One of these talents, Boikanyo Molale of ‘Kanyo M’ brand, said being selected to be part of the fashion show was a breakthrough for his career, as it would give him the necessary exposure. “I am quite ecstatic about showcasing at Miss Botswana. I have been looking forward to it since I started my career in fashion.
I believe it’s one of the biggest platform in the country and I am truly grateful to have been awarded the opportunity to showcase this year. It’s happening so early in my career I couldn’t be more honoured,” he said. In addition, Molale said the collection that he will be showing at the fashion show would be available for sale this summer. The event is a build-up to the grand finale slated for September 21 in Selebi Phikwe.
During the fashion show, judges will select the top 12 contestants who will battle it out to become the next queen. One of the top 30 women with the most votes will automatically be part of the top 12. DAI took another shot at the pageant staging this year following their three-horse race in the last one.
After the ministry pulled out from their annual sponsorship last year, DAI still went ahead with the pageant and managed to take the reigning queen Moitshepi Elias to Miss World.
This year, the team has conducted auditions in Maun, Gantsi, Palapye, Selebi-Phikwe, Francistown and Gaborone where more than 60 young women showed up.
