Fouche was caught at the Stockpoort border post in SA, about 50 kilometres from Machaneng with the cash hidden in the truck of his rented Suzuki Swift. He appeared in the Lephalale Magistrate’s Court this morning facing a charge of money laundering.
Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo told Mmegi the suspect was yet to reveal where he intended to take the money to in Botswana or where he had sourced it from in South Africa.
“That’s what we want to determine; where the money was going and where that money is from.
“So far we only know that he wanted to cross over.
“It’s early for now, but that’s the direction of our investigations,” he said via telephone.
Fouche will appear again at the same court on August 15.
His arrest comes at a time when money laundering has become a hot topic locally, with authorities seizing cash and property worth millions as part of investigations.
