Financial Literacy Paramount For Youth, Public

To be held under the theme, Importance of a Financial-Literate Botswana, Tsheole pointed out that it will be a ceremony celebrating excellence, diligence and commitment through their annual youth-focused flagship initiative.
Speaking during the official August 2019 opening bell ceremony, he stated that it does not only give him great pleasure to not only recognise the hard-work and achievements of last year’s winners, but to also shed light on the importance of promoting financial education in the society, especially at grass-root level.
“Lobatse Senior School came out first last year and we applaud them for their achievement,” he stated.
He further indicated that the main objective is to raise awareness of capital markets with the strategic aim to cultivate a culture of investing at a grassroot level. Sensitising and educating the public about the stock market and importance of investing, the BSE also leverages on this initiative to educate and inform local business owners about the prospects of listing on an exchange to facilitate growth.
Additionally, Tsheole stated that P29,000 is up for grabs but not in a monetary form but rather as a voucher that is in return redeemed to buy shares of choice in the market.Moreover, Thapelo Moribame who is the head of market development stated that the competition is on its seventh year since inception and they are extremely proud of what they have achieved with the competition in the schools.
She further stated that they have made slight changes to the competition with one of them being to have top 10 schools to take part in these competitions and that they have a forth place this time around other than the norm of having three winner positions.
“We have decided to add two more schools on top of the eight that we usually have, and there will be forth position this time around,” she said.
She further stated that they make it a point that other than the monetary prize, they give the winning schools massive publicity to appear on the BSE platforms, especially the opening bell ceremony, to ring the bell and open the market, which is an honour that has been enjoyed by many.
