A night with the gospel legend event, organised by Mafia Flames Entertainment did not go as planned as they experienced problems with sound checks to an almost an empty venue.
South Africa’s famous queen of gospel, Rebecca Malope whose music career spans more than three decades was supposed to be the shining star of the event.
Having had the experience of performing at many musical festivals across nations, the queen of gospel who continues to inspire listeners globally had a no show at Molapo Stanbic Piazza when only about 30 people showed up.
With about four hours from when the show should have commenced following long meetings between the queen of gospel and the organisers about the setback, they finally came to a conclusion not to go ahead with the event.
The cancellation was almost like a knife to the gut for those who had been waiting for a long time with no communication from the organisers about why there was a delay.
After hours and finally deciding that there was not going to be a night with the gospel legend, one of the Mafia Flames organisers finally addressed the few attendees and apologised for the decision.
The organiser said they experienced a few power cuts earlier, which might have been a result of the problems they were encountering with the sound.
Additionally, the organiser said the show will be postponed and that they will see to it that those who made it to the show will be compensated.
When commenting on her part and addressing the attendees, the queen of gospel stated that the organisers were new and did not have enough experience about what it took to put up a show as big as that one.
She further stated that Mafia Flames Entertainment had apologised and promised that they will in the future engage organisers who have been in the industry longer to help them.
However, the attendees expressed their happiness at the sight of the queen of gospel when she addressed them alongside other local artists that were supposed to perform at the event.
“Sis Reebs at least we got to see you,” screamed one fan in the audience.
