Boost for inter-banks games

Speaking at a press briefing in Gaborone yesterday, the organising committee chairperson, Brian Ketshabile said the Botswana National Sport Commission (BNSC) affiliated sports bodies will assist with referees and umpires in an effort to promote fairness.

“We have requested for assistance from the associations for these games. In terms of officiating this event we would have the qualified referees and umpires from these associations, so we are expecting the tournament to run as smoothly as possible,” Ketshabile said.

Participating institutions are National Development Bank (NDB), Bank of Botswana (BoB), First National Bank (FNB), Standard Chattered Bank, BancABC, Stanbic Bank, Botswana Savings Bank (BSB), Bank Gaborone, Botswana Building Society (BBS) and Citizen Entrepreneurial Development Agency (CEDA).

The banks will compete in seven sporting codes being football, volleyball, table tennis, darts, netball, pool and golf. The indoor games will start on August 19, at Botho University with table tennis and pool, while darts will be played at the BoB grounds. Football’s knock out matches will be played at Lekidi and BNSC grounds, while the final will be at BoB grounds on August 20. Volleyball games will be at Tsholofelo Park courts on August 20. “We are yet to confirm the venue for netball, but we are hopeful that we would use the BONA courts,” he said.

Ketshabile also said there have been misconceptions about the event in the past, however he said they want to play their part in the society.

“We want to promote wellness, team building amongst our institutions, financial literacy and community funding. There are a lot of misconceptions about the event because we are more than fun orientated. If we could make enough profits we would like to call for an entrepreneurship workshop to empower the young people with passion for business,” Ketshabile said.
