Miss Botswana Organisers Unveil Top 30 Finalists

At a press briefing held on Thursday, the Miss Botswana’s indefatigable crew revealed the 2019-2020 top 30 finalists.
One of the organisers, Benjamin Raletsatsi said this year they looked for the potential queen throughout the breadth and length of the country.
“We had over 60 girls, who auditioned for the crown throughout the country. We will have a fashion show on August 17, 2019 where we will cut the number down to 12,” Raletsatsi said.
He further highlighted that they will not only judge from the fashion show, but also from how the girls will behave throughout the competition.
He said voting lines will be open from August 29 for every network from which Batswana can vote for a queen that will represent them at the Miss World 2019 in December.
Miss Botswana 2018-2019, Moitshepi Elias who also graced the press briefing said being able to go to Miss World was an eye-opener for her.
“A lot of things I wished previous queens could have done for me given that they have been in my shoes before, I did not get to learn from them. For that, I will walk hand in hand with the next queen and make sure by the time she leaves for London, where this year’s Miss World will be held, she will be ready in every way possible,” vowed Elias.
La Calla Jewelleries, this time around, designed a new Miss Botswana crown, which depicts the identity of a noble woman in Botswana. “The focal point of the design depicts an abstract head of a woman wearing a doek. A doek is a piece of cloth traditionally wrapped around a women’s head during social gatherings to give the event an identity of culture, meaning as well as for religious purposes,” Caiphus Othomile said.
He highlighted that the doek in the crown also incorporates the Botswana flag colours.
“Whoever is the most popular amongst the girls on social media will get an automatic pass to the top 12,” Kaone Moremong, who is also one of the organisers of the programme, said.
Botswana Council of Women (BCW), which was founded in 1965, also formed the Miss Botswana programme. BCW’s main mandate is making voluntary organisation, concerned with promotion of women with skills, knowledge, motivation to enable them to participate fully in the process of social and economic development, especially for poor, disadvantaged women and children in the rural remote areas of Botswana.
The Miss Botswana programme mainly exists to offer young women career opportunities, future leadership roles and cultivates them to reach their full potential.
