“The project was mainly to interrogate Botswana about money-related issues that Batswana face in their day-to-day lives through drama and poetry,” said Barclays Bank Managing Director, Keabetswe Pheko-Moshagane.
She further highlighted that the project unearthed deeper understanding of different problems. “Evoking dialogue and awareness around these issues has significantly contributed in finding tangible solutions,” she said. In celebrating milestones Madi Majwana reached, Pheko-Moshagane said the project has now evolved to include radio drama, public debates, documentaries and financial literacy festivals.
She said that over three hundred local artists have been employed towards the sponsoring the project.
The Madi Majwana Group will be going on tour soon. The tour will cover a few villages across the country being Gantsi, Gumare, Maun, Kasane, Francistown and Selebi Phikwe.
Tefo Paya, Director at Maitisong said they are quite privileged to be going on tour and to meet people of different backgrounds. He said it is important to educate people about finances. “We are so blessed to have Barclays Bank which has been with us for the longest time and supported us in every way possible,” said Paya.
“This time around we have added a little twist, we will not have documentaries. Rather we are going to pick stories from the ground and the reality of what is actually happening and put it in our radio drama, mainly to come up with real solutions to the problems,” he explained.
