Botswana Police Service and government were accused of turning violent on ‘peaceful’ demonstrators, who were mostly youth.

The youth movement took to Parliament on Monday to grab the attention of legislators disembarking from their vehicles on the high rate of unemployment graduates. They held placards outside Parliament demonstrating their disappointment with the leadership.

Central Police Station officers then pounced on the demonstrators. By late evening some were detained at the police station without being charged.

Showbiz has picked some of the few interesting social media comments from some entertainment industry leaders;

Samantha Mogwe: “I salute the protesters at Parliament, who are speaking out about the issue of unemployment!!!”

Thato ‘Scar’ Matlhabaphiri @Scarbond: “A statement was made though. #UnemploymentMovement….. The Botswana Police Service can be such bullies. Finally caught on camera”.

Steez BW: “I slept with a heavy heart.  I couldn’t even bring myself to comment about this yesterday (Monday). I was just shocked, I couldn’t believe it. Police brutality on peaceful demonstrators goes against everything we’ve always stood for as a peaceful nation. What message are we sending to these young people we deem leaders of tomorrow? That violence is the answer to resolving issues? What happened to ‘ntwakgolo keya molomo’? This is something that no Motswana who love(s) this country can be proud of. PERIOD! #“onedissapointedMotswana”.

Thabang Garogwe: “For a longtime our leaders made false promises and they thought no one will ever stand against them....jobs is all they promised. Deliver deliver…”

Thabo Rantao “ in Botswana when you say you are unemployed and you want a job the police beat you up.. watch this sad video clip”

Loungo Pitse @AndrePitse: “Police brutality in our own BW.. And the Leaders just watched on... United and Proud?? So many unanswered questions #unemoplyment”.
