The train leaves Gaborone tonight at 7pm and arrives in Sowa Town in the morning at 7am.
In the return trip, it will leave Sowa Town on Monday July 15 at 6pm and arrive in Gaborone the next morning at 6am.
The train will make stops in Mahalapye, Palapye, Serule and Francistown.
While entertainment will be provided, with a DJ on board, no disco van will be availed for the trip. This is the organisation’s mission to make sure that the sixth edition of Makgadikgadi Epic becomes the one to remember. BTO and BR previously collaborated to transport revellers to Phikwe for the Toyota 1000km Desert Race (TDR). Similarly the Makgadikgadi Epic fans would get to enjoy the treatment.
“As BTO, we decided that providing transport will make travelling easy for our clients given that it’s a long distance travel,” BTO Acting Public Relations and Communication Manager Samuel Lephalo told Arts & Culture in an interview.
He further emphasised that given the good reports from TDR, it was only proper that they provide transport to reduce accidents and traffic congestion. Lephalo also highlighted that there was need to provide rail transport because Makgadikgadi Epic is held during the holidays.
The standard class fares from Gaborone to Sua Pan is P134, Business class ticket cost P223 while the first class ticket goes for P373.
The standard ticket luggage allowance is 30kg per adult while 40kg per adult is allowed for both the business and first class fares.
The distance from Gaborone to Sowa Town 596 km.
It takes 12 hours for the BR passenger train to complete the journey including the stops made on the way.
Giving an outline of the event Lephalo said that in total they have 59 skydivers and 6 skydivers represent Botswana only.
It would be held from 6pm to 6am. From Friday to Monday children entrance is free for under-12s while adults pay P50.
