Miss Independence BOT50 hosts fashion show

According to the event organiser, Gaonyafale Phuti the event will determine who will make it to the grand finale in September by selecting 12 ladies who will compete for the crown. However, she pointed out that they have not yet confirmed the date nor place where the grand finale will take place.

“The fashion show will kick-start with the contestants showcasing different traditional attires representing different tribes across the country.

It will later be followed by talent show where the ladies would be performing various traditional dances and songs,” she said.

The contestants would be expected to showcase traditional dances and songs such as setapa, tsutsube, hosanna, phathise and others. According to her, these traditional dances would be infused with the new  ones adapted from other cultures since the country gained its independence to date such as kwaito, polka and others.

“We will also have poetry and Setswana folk stories. Our contestants will be asked different Setswana idioms, their meanings and how they were used in the past,” she added.

Phuti said those young women would also showcase different domestic roles played by a Motswana woman such as go setla, go hehera, sewing and others.  They will also showcase different field foods such as sorghum, watermelons, maize, beans, sweet reeds and others.

She said Steez, Laco Kenosi and other upcoming artists such as Crankyard, Stormyard and many more would be performing at the event. The fashion show will start at 7pm till late. Entrance fee will be P200 for a standard ticket and P500 VIP ticket.

Pedigree Sport, Choppies, Huawei, Bonnitas Aqua, Avani and Cresta President Hotel sponsor the event. Lorato Barwabatsile would dress the contestants.

However, according to a source close to the BOT50 office, they give permission to all Batswana who are interested in using BOT50 slogan in their activities, but they would only officially recognise Miss Botswana and Balekane ba Botswana pageants during the golden jubilee celebrations at the National Stadium.
