The MoU was expected to kick start a collaboration between the two organisations in the establishment of a regional chamber of commerce and informal sector.

SPEDU chief executive officer, Mokubung Mokubung said they postponed the signing, which was supposed to take place on Monday this week, because they still needed to thrash out some issues in the MoU before the signing could take place. He said the signing will take place before the end of September.

BB CEO, Racious Moatshe said the two organisations are committed to ensuring that the MoU is signed but they have to do it properly.

He stressed that the signing of the MoU is of paramount importance hence it has to be done.

“We have realised that we need to attend to some issues first.

As Business Botswana we take responsibility on private sector development while SPEDU looks at the regional development,” he added. Last week, SPEDU opened a tender invitation that called for companies to tender for consultancy to create the regional chamber of commerce to enable a conducive environment for private sector participation in the economic diversification programme of the SPEDU region.
