Speaking during the Strategic HR Conference recently, Karabo Gare said about quarter of a century ago, HR departments played little more than a welfare role and it was a ‘tea and sympathy’ department unlike today where the HR function is highly skilled and requires strategic contribution.
“HR shouldn’t be known for employing, recruiting and firing people in a workplace, but rather it is about bringing the best out of the workforce.
HR specialists are more critical at this moment to promote continued advocacy for the use of Design Thinking and Teaching,” Gare said.
According to Gare, the event’s theme of ‘Realising a High Innovative Economy Through Transformative People Strategies’ is relevant in many ways and is particularly aligned to his ministry’s innovative three pillar Apex Model.
The ministry’s innovative three pillar Apex Model, which ensures a more coordinated approach towards Small, Micro and Medium Enterprises (SMME) development, investment promotion and export development.
Gare stated that through the three pillars they intend to ensure the achievement of economic diversification, growth and development resulting in job creation and poverty eradication.
Additionally he stated that the theme also conforms to the National Vision 2036 aspirations where they want to transform the economy into a high income economy and shift from a resource based economy to a knowledge based one that will create opportunities for all Batswana.
He also stated that it builds on the presentation made during the last successful Career Elevation Summit organised by Progressive Institute where the guest speaker, an Indian Innovation Guru and Fortune 500 companies Leadership Coach, Pravin Rajpal implored participants to cultivate a culture of innovation in order to remain relevant in the fast-changing world. He further outlined that they continue to improve the doing business environment for industries to thrive.
In addition he said that the Doing Business Reforms Roadmap adopted back in 2015 identified legislations and administrative procedures that needed to be improved to create a conducive environment to facilitate transformation.
