Basitang was dismissed in February 2014 and immediately challenged his firing before the Industrial Court where he sought compensation from the BRU.

Basitang was kicked out after showing interest in contesting for elections as BRU secretary general.

The figure is for leave days and the remaining eight months of his contract. Basitang was fired after working for 16 months.

“My argument was that BRU could not fire me before the elections were held. My contract did not state if I was not allowed to contest for elections or not. I requested for elections to pass but they did not accept my plea,” said Basitang.

He said he did not have a problem working with BRU but that can only happen after he has received his compensation. Basitang said he always assists to train some schools in Botswana when he is on a break from Lesotho.

“I do not have a problem with BRU. It is only individuals who have problems with me,” said Basitang.

Basitang was hired by BRU in 2013 to fill a post that was left vacant following the departure of now development manager, Zilwele Khumalo.

BRU secretary general Ernest Mantsi said they will have to study the judgement first. Mantsi said despite being dragged before the court, they are still interested in working with Basitang.

“We want to resolve this matter and move forward. This is an old matter and it is an issue of misunderstanding. We have other things to deal with like finding sponsorship for the BRU league,” said Mantsi.
