Makoriba releases debut album

 

Makoriba prides itself with Botswana’s culture of traditional music and dance. The album also sends a very strong message on life skills such as marriage and relationships together with health issues and current affairs.

One of the tracks acknowledges the existence of churches and encourages them to continue in spreading the gospel and preaching about peace to believers and non-believers.

The group spokesperson, Lesitamang Lota told Showbiz that the album brings a new taste of traditional music with refreshing and relaxing lyrics.

He added that the album is suitable for every occasion as it can be enjoyed when travelling long distances and during one’s leisure time.

Lota said when they came up with the album they played around with the beats and instruments accompanied by educational lyrics.

“We used a variety of genres, beats and sounds of gospel, soul, house-kwasa music so that we can give the album a unique taste,” he said. He explained that Makoriba is a contemporary traditional group that originates from Selebi-Phikwe and was formed early this year.

The group is made up of six members, which comprises of five dancers and a lead singer.

“Makoriba traditional group consists of youthful members including myself. Other members are Onkgopotse Keosupile, Kefilwe Gaogakwe, Goitsemang Keadirile and Ikageng Ntwaetsile,” said Lota.

He revealed that before they formed the group they were dancing for Diwetse and Dielane cultural groups but later joined the renowned Maghebula for the last three years.

He added that they decided to form their own group early this year. The first track in the album is titled Makoriba which the group used to introduce themselves to Batswana.

The track also talks about their journey of traditional music and dance together with spreading culture to the people.

The second track is called Ma Africa and its lyrics are about uniting African countries together through peace and democracy.

To make the album more interesting, the title track Ke tshwarwa ke bogatsu is a playful song about being affectionate with one’s lover.

Other tracks include Manyalo, Masione and Rola kepese, which is said to have grasped the attention of traditional music devotees in Francistown.

The album was composed by the traditional group and produced by Tshepho Oakile at Sweet Melodies Records.

Mixing and mastering was done at Jayblack Record Studio in Francistown.
