The biannual conference, organised by Business Botswana (BB), will be held under the theme: ‘Botswana at fifty: Celebrating success and strengthening the public-private sector for sustained prosperity’.

According to BB chief executive officer, Racious Moatshe the conference will also focus on engendering trust between the public and private sectors, and strengthening partnerships for development.

“The question that arises now is, how can the public and private sectors enhance their partnerships for greater, sustained developmental outcomes,” he said.

He added that the theme recognises the enormous developmental strides made by Botswana, which have largely been led by the public sector, and steps taken to grow the private sector as a viable instrument for development.

Moatshe further noted that BB, as the national chamber of commerce, wants the government to play a lesser role and pave way for the private sector to take charge of the economy.

According to Moatshe, the success of the country’s economic growth lies in the private sector. Meanwhile, he said the NBC is organised in partnership with the government with First National Bank of Botswana (FNBB) as the main sponsor.

“This is a premier event that brings together top government and business leaders to formulate economic and business reforms to make Botswana internationally competitive,” the CEO said.

Other notable topics that will be covered at the NBC include; Botswana’s economy beyond minerals; Overcoming structural limitations of private sector growth in Botswana; Overcoming the challenges of implementing large infrastructure projects; Overcoming the challenges of ICT in the promotion of foreign investment in Botswana, among others.

The three-day conference also seeks to boost investor confidence as well as to provide the answer to the growth of small, medium and micro-sized enterprises (SMMEs).
