Kalavango Dim Stars To Halt Losing Streak

Spiking Stars went into the game high on confidence and showed determination to pocket the game. Stars bagged the first set, 25-12 after dominating proceedings 10-8 and 20-12 at some stage. Kalavango fought back in the second set, which was evenly contested as the scores tied 12-12,13-13 and 15-15 before Kalavango edged the fierce tie 28-26.

Kalavango took control of the match as they moved to a crucial 2-1 lead in the game after winning the third set 25-20.

The game, played at the Lobatse Sports Complex on Saturday, was now in the hands of Kalavango going into what proved to be a decisive fourth set in the best of five matches. The fourth set triggered a tight contest with Stars eager to take the game to the fifth set. But again, it was Kalavango who crossed the line first, winning 25-22, after the game was tied at 19-19 and 22-22 in the closing stages. Kalavango head coach, Kabelo Marumo was impressed.

“We almost lost control of the game in the first set, but my boys came back. It has been three months without winning and it’s a plus for us,” Marumo said.

On the other hand Spiking Stars head coach, Kealeboga Mmekwane was left disappointed.

“I am not impressed. My team didn’t manage to convert the balls. I tried to give them confidence but they didn’t manage. There is still more to do,” Mmekwane said.
