Sango Crowned Botswana�s Strongest Iron Man

It was a tight competition as all the competitors were experienced professionals who showed the hunger to win. They were Kenneth Simon, Vinton Mothoagae, Sango, Ahmed Aboelela, George David, Kudakwashe Zhara and Swazie.
Strongest Iron Man Botswana had four categories; the truck pull, tyre flip, dead lift and the farmers’ walk.
The judging criteria was based on the overall performance from all the disciplines and how the athletes completed their tasks.
Sango came out on top in all the categories as he managed to complete all his tasks but faced competition from Zhara, Simon and Aboelela who equally managed to finish their task. The majority of the contestants did not manage to sail through.
Aboelela appeared to be the favourite to win the title due to the character he displayed throughout the competition, but it came as a surprise when Sango clocked 41 points to be crowned the Strongest Iron Man Botswana and walked away with P10,000.
The second best was Aboelela who scored 30.5 points and Simon coming third with 28.5 points.
The two athletes received P5,000 and P3,000 respectively.
“I tried my best. I didn’t prepare like I always do, but I tried to do everything to the maximum. I was using every piece of power I had. The other guys were ready more than I was. Instead of taking three months to prepare for this competition I only did so in two months because I was facing some problems which stopped me from training,” Sango said after winning the title.
Present at the Strongest Iron Man Botswana competition was South African athlete Johan Els who did a pull truck demonstration, pulling a 25 tonnes truck, which was pulled by the contestants. The main sponsor of the event, Scania announced they will take the top three winners to the Strongest Iron Man Africa Champions to be held in South Africa later this year at a date to be announced.
The contest continued in the evening at Cresta Lodge with the Mr Iron Man and Miss Curvaceous.
