Dube Wins Mascom Cycling Race

Dube, who completed the race in 3:00:08, told Monitor Sport that he felt great to have done so well considering that he did not perform well in the last race he competed in. He said he did not encounter any problems on the way. Dube said his team members also assisted him in the race. “The guy who was leading was my team mate. The idea was not to chase him. I just kept my cool so that others can push him and he got tired. I took advantage of that. I was not physically fit because I have been sick,” said Dube. Lulu Telekelo of Jwaneng finished second and Amogelang Thwabi of BR Railways came third.   Tsela Ryders cyclist, Anouk Van Der Geest was the first woman to cross the line in a time of 3:00:16.

Van Der Geest was among the leaders, and at one stage, she was ahead of the whole pack but said the competition was tough.

“I had to convince my mind that I was going to finish. I had to make sure that my body follows my mind. I had an opportunity to attack in the last six kilometres,” she said. She said racing against men is always challenging, but said the route was smooth. Natalie Clope finished second.   Thuso Letlhare of Morupule won the 120km junior race with Tshepho Sentsho second and Dimpho Mosi third.  One of the organisers, Patrick Tshomane said the race went according to plan. He said the distance was increased from 100km from last year to 120km.

“We changed the route to make the race more exciting. We used a straight route to avoid crashes we had last year. We had a good turn out,” said Tshomane. Mascom sponsored the race for P184,741.
