BNOC was responding to reports that athletes were unpaid when they left camp following the tours, which took them to Francistown and other villages along the A1.

BNOC chief executive officer, Tuelo Serufho said the athletes were cleared of their dues soon after they left camp.

“I wish to confirm that at the time you called me on Thursday to enquire if the athletes had been paid or not, they were already paid.  By the time you went to print, the athletes had already been paid.

It is unfortunate that whoever your informant is, did not tell you the truth,” said Serufho. He said the source had a sinister agenda.

Mmegi Sport spoke to some athletes after they were released from camp on Thursday and said they had not received their allowances.  However, Serufho said the allowances were paid the same day the athletes left camp.

Asked about the relationship between BNOC and Botswana Athletics Association (BAA), Serufho said the two bodies have a cordial relationship.  He said just like any other relationship, there were some instances where they did not agree on certain aspects.

“I suspect that there is someone within the BAA who has an agenda. That person must be aware that lies have short legs. We would catch him and bring him to book,” he said.

Meanwhile, Serufho said the focus has now shifted to the upcoming athletics season and the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. He said the Olympics would be used as a learning curve moving forward.
