He said although the Saturday event pulled a large crowd estimated to be around 13,000, he was taken aback by the talented youth who performed at the not so popular shows like choral and theatre.
“I mean I am obviously more than humbled by those who turned up in large numbers on Saturday.
They have helped map this event as the biggest, not only in Botswana but also in Africa. But I am also amazed by the talent we have here in Botswana that we are yet to nurture and recognise, for me the choral and the theatre events were breathtaking,” Pabalinga said.
Pabalinga also said that with the event running for the whole week most lodges and hotels were packed with enthusiast who traveled from other parts of the country and Africa to be part of the third installment of GIMC.
Quizzed on whether there were any casualties or reported police incidents Pabalinga said: “I went around police stations, the Central Police Station and the Broadhurst Police Station and I can confirm that there were no major incidents. Of course having housed such a huge crowd it is expected to have a few incidents, but at the moment there are no cases that have reached us,” he said Notably at the venue, the DStv marquee stood out from the rest. The marquee powered by MultiChoice Botswana marketing manager, Basadi Masimolole, and her team was undoubtedly the best and most outstanding.
DStv collaborated with GIMC where they held a competition for their subscribers to stand a chance to win tickets for the Saturday event. The television broadcast of the GIMC will be next week Thursday on BET Africa at 7pm, making it the first ever local event to be aired on the DStv channel.
