They will participate in the continental tournament following a protracted battle over the registration of Ofentse Nato that led to a delayed end to the season.

Rollers coach, Mark Harrison said they are ready to break new ground, as traditionally local clubs fail to go beyond the second round.

“We want to win both the league and top eight cup. Additionally, we are targeting the Champions League group stages. It is going to be a tough season for us since we are competing in Africa.

Our intention is to represent Botswana very well.  We don’t want to play only two games and then we are out,” Harrison, who has assembled a 25-strong man team for the new season, said.

He said the club will not be making any new additions and he is satisfied with the squad that has seen the notable arrival of Ntesang ‘Mirror’ Simanyana, Lemponye ‘FC’ Tshireletso and the return of goalkeeper, Mwampule Masule from a season loan with army side, BDF XI.

Harrison, who is in his second season with the Gaborone giants, said the delay in the league start has a negative effect.

“It is not easy, but we have to prepare to start on October 8. We just have to get on with it,” he said.

Harrison tips Orapa United to give his side stiff competition, mentioning Gilport Lions and Jwaneng Galaxy as dark horses.

He, however, did not discount traditional giants, Mochudi Centre Chiefs and Gaborone United who face a tough battle owing to their off the field squabbles.

Chiefs lost key players while GU suffered a body blow after investor, Nicholas Zakhem’s exit.
