TASC have advanced to the national championships

Northern Zone netball spokesperson, Mercy Kololo said the second round of the league will not be played due to time constraints and first round winners TASC and Orapa Wanderers will automatically qualify for the top four national championships.

“It has been agreed that the second round will not be played because the league started late. Therefore, it means that the two teams that finished first and second in the first round have qualified for the top four,” Kololo said. The Tango Girls finished on top with eight points and 260 goals while Orapa was second with eight points and 162 goals after the final fixtures played over the weekend in Palapye.

Despite finishing at the top, TASC are still awaiting a ruling of their game against Botswana Railways that did not take place. Tango Girls were charged for showing up late for the encounter and lost two points and 25 goals to their opponents.

TASC manager, Benson Ntereke said they are not happy with what transpired and they have not been served with a formal ruling. He said for the sake of making sure rules are followed, they would take up the matter with the mother body, the Botswana Netball Association (BONA). “We notified the officials on time of the unforeseen problems we encountered on our way to the games and they agreed we will play the game (against Botswana Railways) after all the afternoon games,” he said. “We were surprised to learn that we have been docked two points and goals. However, we are yet to be served with a formal ruling but we believe proper procedure was not followed therefore we will take the matter to the (Botswana netball) association just to make sure such incidents do not re-occur in future,” he said. Meanwhile, TAFIC finished third followed by Botswana Railways. Morupule finished fifth while Sowa occupied the last spot.
