The actors include Humbulani Tsharani, who plays the role of Mulimisi, a traditional healer in the popular South African soapie Muvhango, Mulalo also from Muvhango, Otshepeng Ruele a producer from the recently ended Ashes to Ashes and Cornet Mamabolo best known for his starring role as Thabo ‘Tbose’ Maputla in the SABC1 drama series Skeem Saam.

In an interview with Showbiz, Nkawana said the idea to come up with the media extravaganza came last year during a visit to SABC studios. She said she met with Gabriel Temudzani, a South African actor best known for his starring role as Chief Azwindini Mukwevho on the SABC2 soapie Muvhango. “The idea has always been there. Initially I was to bring Temudzani here but I ended up reaching out to other actors in business,” she said.

Nkawana, who is a theatre graduate from UB, said the four South Africans will come to Botswana to mentor and train locals. “It is more like capacity building; they are coming here to teach us how to thrive in this industry,” she said.

Nkawana said her visit to SABC studios enlightened her on certain aspects when it comes to production locally. She said South Africans take production seriously and it is time Batswana benchmark from these people. She said she wants the event to become an annual event. “My dream is to fly the flag higher and perhaps one day I will bring actors from Hollywood,” she said.

Nkawana said on the day different speakers will make presentations on various topics and then everyone will get a chance to interact with the actors during the break. The event is sponsored by Vuwa Holdings from SA, Wealth Point, Matlala Attorneys, Big Foot Tours and Webtickets. The ticket for the media extravaganza is sold at P250.
