BSA received P4.5 million from BoFiNet in a three-year deal, which translates to P1.5 million per season. The winners of the 2015/16 season pocketed P100,000 while runners up took home P65,000. Third placed teams walked away with P40,000 while the last placed team received P7,000.

BSA marketing and public relations officer, Kelebogile Seitei told Mmegi Sport yesterday that they are actively looking for more sponsors to augment what BoFINet is giving them as the league has become costly to run over the years.

“It is clear the BoFINet league has become attractive, hence more teams want to (join and) compete,” she said.

Seitei said they have learnt that the structure they have been using has become too costly in comparison with the prize money hence they are reviewing it.

She said the association is looking at the league structure to see how it can be made more cost-effective for teams without compromising competition and the mileage the league gives to the sponsor.

“We are in discussion with our sponsor and so far nothing concrete can be reported regarding the outcome of the negotiations as they are not yet complete,” she said.

Meanwhile, the number of teams in the league increased last season with the arrival of Sua Raiders, Scramblers, Titans (women) and Eagles. Seitei said Raiders has not been active for close to a decade.

She observed that competition was tough at the bottom while sides like Scramblers returned with more vigour, edging Rail Giants out of the Selebi-Phikwe Softball Extravaganza. Rail Giants only squeezed through after lodging a protest.

Another upset last season was when Titans women won bronze at their very first league appearance, eliminating Wells and Bears in the process.
