Initially, the Botswana Football Association (BFA) had targeted Nigeria but the fading continental giants proved unaffordable, demanding P2.5 million.

Angola, BFA chief executive officer, Kitso Kemoeng said, had initially demanded P1.3 million as appearance fee. But eventually agreed to a reduced figure of P1 million, which the organisers, BOT50 will fork.

BFA provides technical guidance. Other regional neighbours, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Mozambique were contacted but in vain.

Kemoeng said Mozambique had looked likely opponents but made a u-turn at the last minute.

“We had contacted other countries in the region. Mozambique had initially agreed but their new coach was opposed to the idea. Zambia said they had World Cup qualifiers commitment while Zimbabwe was contacted and but did not respond,” Kemoeng said.

The match is scheduled for the revamped National Stadium, which now has an improved capacity of 23,000 after recent P45 million upgrades.
