Re Batswana to perform at Masa Square

The concert will feature Re Batswana Ensemble, which comprises of Lister Boleseng (music director), Nnunu Ramogotsi, Ndingo Johwa, Lekofi Sejeso, Chedza Majwabe, Sakkie Nonong, Andrew Chnganga, Kopano Mantswe, and Leroy Nyoni, as well as Streethorn DJs, Soares “DJ SK” Katumbela, and DJ Milton.

The DJs will treat attendees to jazz tunes prior to Ensemble’s performance, and jazz after.

The concert is meant to raise funds for the Ensemble, scheduled to leave on September 20, 2016.

RBME, which will be performing at a number of venues during Botswana’s 50th Independence celebrations will kick-start its the tour with a performance in Beijing, China on September 23 2016.

The Ensemble will then travel to Sweden where they will host a music workshop at the Upplands Vasby, Sweden on September 27,2016, and a concert at Messingen Theatre in Upplands Vasby, Sweden.

On September 30, RBME will host its final performance in Berlin, Germany.

Tickets for the farewell concert are P250 including snacks. Tickets can be purchased at Streethorn Music Café in Molapo Crossing Mall.

The Ensemble so far has a number of sponsors, including BotswanaCraft, Timber Trading, Soundbass, Rosens Media, Masa Square Hotel, Upplands Vasby Kommun, Brand Botswana and Botswana Embassies in China and Germany.

RBME has previously performed in Sweden and Switzerland.

The Ensemble was formed in 2011, after Streethorn director, Katumbela recognised the need to promote local musicians abroad.

“Last year the band completed a successful tour of Sweden and Switzerland where they presented Batswana music and culture. The success of this tour has awarded Re Batswana Music Ensemble another opportunity to perform in China, Sweden and Germany where they are booked to perform during the celebration of the Botswana’s 50th Independence Day,” Katumbela said.
